Who We Are


Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is a company that generates electricity in Malawi. EGENCO operates four hydro power stations: Nkula, Tedzani, Kapichira and Wovwe.

The Company also operates thermal and solar power plants. Overall, EGENCO has a total installed generation capacity of 441.95MW, with 390.55MW from hydro power plants and 51.4MW from thermal power plants.

Nkula Power Station

Nkula Power Station comprises of two power plants, Nkula A, generating 12MW and Nkula B, generating 100MW. Its total generation capacity is 122MW.

Kapichira Power Station has two power plants, Kapichira I and Kapichira II, each generating 32.4MW. Its total generation capacity is 129.6MW.

Tedzani Power Station has three power plants; Tedzani I&II, generating a combined 40MW and Tedzani III, generating 62MW. Its total generation capacity is 102MW.

Adding 1350 Megawatts from 2018 to 2033

We have earmarked a number of projects to increase power generation capacity. In the next one to five to 10 years, EGENCO plans to aggressively pursue projects that can double the power generation capacity in the country.
