This is a 50MW solar power project at Nanjoka in Salima district in the central region of Malawi, 71km away from the Capital City, Lilongwe.
The project is planned to be implemented in three phases, starting with 10 Megawatts (MW) for the first phase and then 10MW and 30MW for the second and third phases respectively.
Feasibility studies for the first phase were completed and a contract to build this phase of the project was awarded to Chint Electric Co. Ltd. Construction began on 5th July 2024 and is expected to be completed in 18 months at an estimated total cost of $13,545,953.78.
EGENCO has already acquired 110 hectares of land to accommodate the entire 50MW solar power plant.
