TEDZANI UNIT 5 (31MW) BACK ONLINE
Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is pleased to announce to all stakeholders and the public of the successful restoration of Tedzani Unit 5, adding 31 Megawatts (MW) of power generation capacity to Malawi’s national electricity grid.
The Unit had been out of service since December 2024 due to faulty generator. Its restoration works involved protracted procurement of specialized materials and mobilization of an Engineer from the Original Equipment Manufacturer, Andritz Hydro GmbH of Austria. The materials arrived in the country in mid-November 2025 and the works commenced on 21st November 2025, upon mobilization of the Engineer.
Once again, we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by the loss of this Unit. EGENCO remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted power generation and supply to the national grid.
