UPDATE ON POWER GENERATION
Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) wishes to update all stakeholders and the public on power generation status after cyclone Freddy.
As of 28 March 2023, we have managed to stabilize the generation system with all the machines at Nkula and Tedzani Power Stations now available. We had difficulties running all Tedzani III and Nkula A machines because of excessive trash, debris, silt and rocks which chocked water intakes.
Additionally, we had one machine at Tedzani I&II that was not available due to a problem with transformer jumpers. However, we can now confirm that all these challenges have been rectified and all machines at the two stations are available and supplying to the national grid.
For Kapichira Power Station, despite suspending works for over a week because of the heavy rainfall during the Cyclone Freddy, we can further confirm that the works have resumed and are progressing well. Having lost over a week of no works on site, we have delayed in finishing the works at Kapichira. We will update the public once we start generating power this April.
EGENCO sincerely regrets any inconvenience that may have been caused by the system challenges.
