EGENCO KICKS OFF WEEKLY WELLNESS PROGRAM WITH 8KM HEALTH WALK
The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) on Friday, 27 June 2025 launched its weekly wellness initiative for its staff in Blantyre with an 8-kilometer return walk along the Chikwakwa road from Milare Roadblock to Kamuzu view.
Organized by the Company’s Social Welfare Committee for the Head office, Central Workshop and Mapanga Peaking Plant, the weekly wellness initiative aims to promote physical fitness and healthy living among employees.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative held at Lotus Hotel, EGENCO Chief Executive Officer Dr. Maxon Chitawo emphasized the importance of employee wellbeing to the company’s performance.
“We want wellness to become part of our culture, not a one-off event, but an ongoing process that supports both the physical and mental health of our employees,” Said Chitawo.
Echoing the CEOs remarks, EGENCO’s Gender and Social Inclusion Manager, Doreen Kavala, said the weekly wellness initiatives will impact workplace morale and inclusivity.
“We believe that regular engagement in wellness programs contributes to stronger teams and improved productivity.” Said Kavala.
The launch marks the beginning of structured weekly wellness activities that will be conducted as part of EGENCO’s commitment to fostering a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing workforce.
