EMERGENCY OUTAGE OF UNIT 3 AT KAPICHIRA POWER STATION
Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) wishes to inform all stakeholders and the public that Unit 3 at Kapichira Hydropower Station has developed a technical fault effectively taking out 26MW in the generation system. Our engineers are currently working to establish and resolve the problem. Meanwhile, the other 3 Units (97.2MW) at the station are running and supplying power to the national grid.
To mitigate the impact of the unavailability of this Unit, EGENCO will utilize all available diesel generators to supplement the available hydropower capacity.
We shall keep the public updated on the progress of the work.
