MINISTER OF ENERGY TOURS EGENCO’S TEDZANI POWER STATION

The Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Hon. Dr. Jean Mathanga, visited Tedzani Power Station in Blantyre in December 2025 to appreciate ongoing machine maintenance and rehabilitation work on its key generating unit.

In her remarks after the tour, the Minister expressed satisfaction with progress to restore 31 megawatts, emphasizing government’s commitment to ending blackouts through investment in existing and new power sources.

The Minister further urged EGENCO to maintain high standards for national energy security.

In his remarks, EGENCO CEO, William Liabunya emphasized the significance of the restoration of Tedzani III Unit 5 with a capacity of 31 megawatts to the national electricity grid.

The Minister’s visit underscores the government’s drive to strengthen power infrastructure to combat frequent blackouts, with Tedzani being a vital asset for energy stability.
