EGENCO PARTICIPATES IN MPATAMANGA AND IFC- LED LENDERS MEETING
On Wednesday, 25th June 2025, EGENCO joined the Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other project partners for an important all-lenders appraisal meeting for a strategic discussion on the project’s progress, technical readiness, and financing structure at Ryalls hotel in Blantyre. The meeting was organized by Mpatamanga Hydro Power limited and IFC as part of the next steps in the appraisal and approval process for the Mpatamanga Hydropower Project.
The visit highlighted ongoing environmental and geotechnical surveys, local engagement progress, and infrastructure plans, reinforcing the project’s strong potential to deliver over 358MW of clean energy to Malawi’s grid while adhering to high sustainability standards.
Speaking during the meeting the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Maxon Chitawo highlighted the importance of Mpatamanga project meeting.
“We are pleased to see this level of commitment from the international financing community. EGENCO remains fully engaged as a government representative and co-sponsor in ensuring the successful realization of this landmark project”. Said Chitawo.
The meeting was complemented by a guided visit to the Mpatamanga Project Site, giving stakeholders including representatives from development finance institutions, private lenders, and project sponsors a firsthand view of the land, access routes, and key locations earmarked for the dam, powerhouse, and regulating dam structures.
