Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is a limited liability company incorporated under the Companies Act (Cap. 46:03) of the Laws of Malawi on 7th September 2016. The company was established with the mandate of generating electricity in Malawi.
Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified Persons of Malawi origin to fill the following vacant position tenable in the company;
CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER AND COMPANY SECRETARY (GRADE EG 4)
Job Specifications
- Guiding and overseeing the overall legal services function in-line with the company’s set goals, policies and strategies.
- Performing the role of legal counsel to the company and representing the company in court proceedings and actively participating in negotiations for major projects.
- Ensuring the company’s compliance with all the requirement of the Company’s Act of the laws of Malawi as well as other statutes and any other legal requirement relevant to the company’s operations and business.
- Representing, directing and guiding the legal services in the company’s strategic planning process and handling activities related to the appointment of the Board of Directors, their induction to the company’s mandate, mission and vision including the overall conduct of the Boards of Directors individually and as an institution.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiation legal instruments such as contracts, licenses and other agreements on behalf of the company
- Managing and liaising with the Company’s external legal counsel
- Maintaining a database of the status of compliance in all regulatory matters affecting the company
- Conducting company secretarial duties by preparing and attending Board and Committee meetings and other related matters.
- Responsible to the Chief Executive Officer
Person Specifications
- A holder of a Bachelors Degree in Law (LLB Hons) and a relevant Masters Degree from a recognized University.
- Must have eight years ‘post admission experience to the Malawian Bar of which at least four years should be at Senior Management level and must possess a valid legal practitioners practicing licence.
- Applications with experience in the power generation industry will have an added advantage
- Must be mature with demonstrable ability to work as a company secretary
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills
- Team player and result oriented
