Speaking during a symbolic cheque presentation at the NICO Group Head Office in Blantyre, Chief Executive Officer for NICO General; Donbell Mandala applauded EGENCO for stepping up to host the symposium which hasn’t held for two years.
He further recognized the role that power generation plays in economic development.
“We believe that power generation is key in the economic development of the country- hence our willingness to sponsor the symposium as it will provide a platform for sharing ideas in improving power generation in Malawi.” Donbell said.
He further commended the strong relationship between NICO General and EGENCO and expressed optimism that it will extend to other subsidiaries in the NICO Holdings Group of Companies.
Accepting the donation, William Liabunya, Chief Executive Officer for EGENCO, thanked NICO for the support saying it will go a long way in enabling EGENCO to host a successful symposium.
“We appreciate the gesture by NICO for being the first company to support us in hosting this event. It is such support from local partners that gives us the confidence that we will be able to host a successful symposium.” Liabunya said.
He further said that the symposium offers EGENCO an opportunity to introduce itself in the region as it is a newly established company.
The symposium will attract over 150 delegates from across Africa representing various electricity utilities and Independent Power Producers (IPPs). It will also attract international participation from various energy sectors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers from Europe, Asia and America.
