Following the launch of its 2020 tree-planting season at Mulongolora Village in Mwanza District, EGENCO’s members of staff from Nkula, Tedzani, Kapichira and Wovwe Power Stations, including its head office, on Friday, 28 February 2020, planted 4500 trees at the power stations and their respective homes.
This, according to EGENCO’s Senior Environmental Officer, Lawrence Chilimampunga, was done in a bid to restore and conserve the environment.
“We are involving every staff member, including their spouses, children and surrounding villagers and local leaders to take part in planting the trees because we have to safeguard and protect the environment as environmental degradation affects power generation,” Said Chilimampunga.
EGENCO’s 2020 tree-planting season was launched on 19 February where it planted 4500 along the shores of Nkulumadzi River at Mulongolora Village in Mwanza District.
This year alone, EGENCO plans to plant 8000 trees along the Shire River catchment area and at its Power Stations.
