The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) says it is ready to sustainably manage and maintain the Rehabilitated, Modernized and Upgraded Nkula ‘A’ Hydropower plant.
EGENCO Board Chairperson, Mr. Lloyd Muhara, said this on Wednesday 31October 2018, when His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, officially commissioned the Rehabilitated, Modernized and Upgraded Nkula ‘A’ Hydropower Plant in Neno district.
“Let me assure you, Sir, and the MCC that we will continue to work hand in hand with EGENCO management to ensure that the Power Plant is managed and operated sustainably so that we can continue to generate power for generations to come”, said the Board Chairperson.
Muhara also said the upgrading works has seen the power plant gaining additional 12 megawatts.
Nkula ‘A’ was Rehabilitated, Modernized and Upgraded as part of the United States (USA) $350.7 million compact which Malawi through MCC and MCA-Malawi has been implementing for the past five years. The project has seen Nkula ‘A’ having additional 12 megawatts, it can now produce 36 megawatts. Before upgrading, it could only produce 24 megawatts.
