The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited has drilled a 46-metre deep borehole for Mzigala village, one of the villages surrounding Tedzani Power Station.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the water facility, EGENCO’s Environmental Officer, Lawrence Chilimampunga, said the aim of the borehole is to give the community access to clean, portable and fresh water.
Receiving the borehole on behalf of the community, Councilor for the ward; Mike Malikita, hailed EGENCO saying it is a sign of the company’s commitment to serving the community. His sentiments were echoed by Emelesi Davie, an inhabitant of Mzigala.
“This borehole is a welcome development. Our previous borehole was salty and far away.” Said Mzigala.
The borehole was a replacement after one was previously decommissioned during a capital dredging project rolled out in 2017 and currently underway at the power station. The project has also involved stream diversion and construction of a wall along the pond to prevent drowning accidents.
