Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) has donated COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth K8.5 million to Chikwawa and Neno District Health Offices to assist the health facilities in the fight against the pandemic.
The donated materials include disposable aprons, safety shoes and goggles, face shields, pulse oximeter and hand-washing buckets among others. EGENCO Chief Executive Officer William Liabunya said the company made the donation to support the work that the health sector is playing to combat COVID-19.
“We appreciate the role our health sector plays in the fight against the pandemic. It is good that we as a company supplement government’s efforts to contain the Corona Virus”. Said Liabunya.
According to the EGENCO CEO, the company has also earmarked a diesel generator for donation to Chikwawa District hospital.
While thanking EGENCO, Chikwawa District Health Officer Stanley Zinkanda said having sufficient materials is important for the fight against the pandemic.
“Our health personnel need protective clothing and sufficient materials as they are in the fore front fighting the Corona Virus”. He emphasized.
Receiving the materials on behalf of Neno District Health office, Neno’s councilor for Chikonde Ward, Biswas Maganga concurred with Zinkanda and pleaded for further support from the corporate world.
